TREMEC INSTALLATION HINTS
I finished installing my Tremec in my 86 5.0, and thought some
comments were in order.
1. I have full length MAC headers on the car. I was unable to drop
rear of the engine far enough to get the bellhousing out of the
car. I was forced to remove one of the headers.
2. the rear transmission mount must be adjusted to fit the mounting
tabs on the Tremec. You cut the spot welds on the tubes, adjust the
cross piece on the tubes to fit/slign with the Tremec mounting
holes, mark the location, remove, and have it spot welded.
3. Along with #2, the bracket for the exhaust moves aft. (the
bracket that sits on the rear transmission mount). I ended up cutting
the bracket's rubber insulated tubes (that the metal "prongs" of the
H-pipe fit into) in half. This allowed the h-pipe to fit right in.
4. I had to extend the wires for the neutral switch for the plugs
   to mate.
All else was pretty straight forward (except for the gorilla that last
tightened the bolts on the rear driveshaft/rear axle flange. that
required a 4 foot long breaker bar).
The transmission has a shorter throw, but is a bit notchy. I expect that
will loosen up a bit with use. So far, so good though.
